Most of Park City sits above 7,000 feet, and the town gets about 120 inches of snow in an average year. Summers are warm with cool nights, usually cooler than in Salt Lake City. Dogs raised here are used to the cold, but a dog arriving from a lower elevation may tire faster. If your dog will travel down the mountain for a stay, ask how the trainer plans exercise and rest on arrival.
Visitors flood the town in ski season and again in summer, so sidewalks, trailheads and shuttle stops fill with strangers and strange dogs. Greeting manners, calm waiting and reliable recall are the skills local owners mention most. Swaner Preserve has more than ten miles of sagebrush trails north of Interstate 80, and its page asks that dogs stay leashed. Basin Recreation and Park City manage many other trails, each with its own rules.
Visitors and second-home owners come and go, so a dog's routine can change with the season. If your household travels, tell any trainer how often your dog has stayed elsewhere, because a dog used to boarding may react differently from one who has never left home. Also ask what you should do differently once your dog is back. General estimates run about $1,500 to $2,500 or more for a two to three week stay.

Good questions
Before you begin.
Does altitude matter for my dog during a stay?
It can for dogs moving between high and lower elevations. Ask the trainer how they pace exercise and watch for tiring in the first days.
Are Park City trails leash-only?
Many are, and some have specific hours or zones. Swaner Preserve's page says to keep pets leashed. Check posted rules on each trail.
Is a stay a good idea if my dog has stayed elsewhere before?
Possibly. Tell the trainer about past stays so they can judge how your dog copes away from home.
Can I request a Park City trainer here?
No. This site is informational and is not taking requests.
